Artist Colony Meditation Series #1

August 10, 2011

I was really surprised when I arrived at the Artist Colony to teach my Meditation class.
The flier that was put out had announced that I was a hypnotherapist.
The group was more interested in hypnosis than meditation.
I was scheduled 1 hour for the class and I sent the whole time answering questions on what it was like to be hypnotized.
It was great fun, most of the questions were on past life regression.
Could I hypnotize the whole group at the same time?
What was it like to have a past life regression?
One of the women kept us entertained with her experiences and as it turns out she was the Transcendental Meditation instructor who was also teaching at the Colony.
This gave me the opportunity to ask some questions too.
It seems she has been practicing TM for a number of years and had decided to teach a class of her own. It is on a volunteer bases and she explained that it was quite simple.
Based on chanting and meditation.
Most of the time it is a group therapy and the members of the colony are pretty open to the whole processes.
I’m looking forward to next week’s class, maybe this time we’ll have some time to do some meditation.

Artist Colony Meditation Series Introduction

This is the first in a series of posts I will be making over the following six weeks.

I have been recently scheduled to teach Meditation Classes at an Active Senior Center.
I thought it would be interesting to report what was taught and the results of each class
The Artist Colony series of  meditation classes is a six week class.
It will be nice to see how the Seniors at the Artist Colony react to the information I plan to present to them.
The class will cover the effects of stress on our minds and bodies.
There will be instructions on different ways to use our breath to relax and how to use meditation daily, even on the most busy, stressful days.
This weekly report will  include what was taught and the Guided Meditation I used to demonstrate the relaxing effects of meditation and show them how they can train their minds to respond to these relaxation effects.
The first class will be on August 10th, 2011

I'm excited to see the transformations.

Lets all meditate!!

Now here comes the big question, what form of meditation should you use and how much are you willing to pay for it?
Recently I looked into some of the local classes being taught at the school and parks in my area and found them to be very expensive. One day a week for six weeks are now going for an average $90.00 and they are not drawing in the people. Some of the classes are including Yoga. The ones that offer Transcendental Meditation are even more expensive.
I stop in at a Adult center and found they were offer they classes for a small donation.

Sometimes you have to wait for the instructor to give you a special mantra to chant in silence. Some require you to buy extra item to bring to the class.

Very few places offer just a simple Guided Meditation.
I offered this type of class and was told that there is no room on their schedule for that type of class.
Maybe I should charge more or give it a unique name to get the Schools interested in them. I know the students had no problem dealing with it.
A few years ago I taught a Guided Meditation class at the local city park.  I had a no problem filling the room and I was not charging very much for my time. I was more interested in teaching and seeing the results in my students.
The center told me my class was not appropriate and they decided to remove it.
Yet the follow year there was another Meditation class that had replaced my class. They were charging twenty dollars more for only 6 weeks, plus a material fee. This went on for three seasons. Each season the class was canceled because of low attendance. Now they are offering a Yoga Meditation class.  I’m not sure if that one will work out because the fall class hasn’t started yet.

From my point of view Meditation is great for relaxing and reflecting on how our bodies react to all the tension and stress it has to go through every moment of the day.
Learning how to breathe correctly and allow ourselves to relax and become stress free is one of benefits of Meditation.
Sometimes you can work through the issues that come up causing upsetting thoughts that they pop up in there minds that disturb your sleep.. Create headaches and many other health problems.

I guess it doesn’t really matter what you choose to practice as long as you do something that will help you relax and become stress free.
Sometimes just taking the dog out for a walk can create a great deal of peace.
Live long and be at peace.

Stress, the little things that add up

Studies show we experience the effects of stress at least 50 times a day.
This can be hard to believe.
Most of the time we are not even aware of the stress our bodies are going through, day in day out.
How many of you use an alarm clock to wake up in the morning.
What happens to our bodies when the Alarm goes off.
The alarm shocks us out of a sound sleep, our heart rate goes up, our blood  pressure rises, muscles tighten.
We start our day on a stressful note and it goes down hill from there.
Stress causes many physical effects. Most people when asked, will say they are tired and have a headache.

Yes, we have a choice Breathing and Relaxation is the answer.
There are hundreds of ways you can achieve a deep state of relaxation, but they all have one thing common, which is deep breathing. It is a natural human occurrence that when you exhale, your body relaxes. This is a known fact, and a biological certainty. That’s why it’s the first thing that a medical professional will ask a patient to do when he wants his patient to relax.
Let me know if you have any ideas that work to help you relax and deal with stress.
